HabSim – Habitat Simulation
Modular simulation of deep-space habitats used to study disruptions and recovery strategies. Work includes contingency scheduling and transition optimization.
Ph.D. researcher focused on resilient habitat operations, autonomy, and decision support. Bridging academic research and industry applications.
Academic & industry partnerships, consulting, and speaking.
I'm Luca Vaccino, a Ph.D. candidate in Mechanical Engineering. My work spans modeling, simulation, and scheduling for complex space systems, with a focus on resilient operations and transition planning for habitats.
Recent efforts include research on autonomous transition scheduling, experimental validation on a cyber-physical testbed, and contributions to student/NASA programs.

Proposal writing & evaluation experience aligned with NASA needs. Teamed on concept development, requirements, and review practices.
Concepts for lunar waste recycling and material reuse supporting sustainable operations; modeling of process flows and operational integration.
Politecnico di Torino (2021). Built a lumped-parameter digital twin of an axial piston pump and trained SVM, k-NN, and Decision Tree models to detect component faults. Validated on healthy and “extremely damaged” valve-plate tests with <5% drain-flow error at 1500–2000 rpm.
